Responsibilities:
The role of mathematics tutors is crucial in providing extra support to students in grades 6-8.
Mathematics tutors can effectively bridge the gap between students and the extra support they need, fostering a positive and productive learning experience in the math classroom.
Salary:
Based on Education Level Licensed/Certified Teachers:
$35 per hour (no benefits) Bachelor's Degree:
$30 per hour (no benefits) High School Diploma:
$20 per hour (no benefits)
Essential Functions:
The following functions are normal for this position.
These functions are not exclusive or all inclusive as other duties may be required and assigned.
Deliver High-Quality Instruction:
Math tutors should provide small group instruction to students who have been identified for tutoring.
They should allocate at least 30 minutes per day, for a minimum of two days a week, over a period of 12 weeks.
The student-to-tutor ratio is 4:
1 for grades 6-8.
Build Trust and Positive Relationships:
Math tutors should work with the same students consistently to establish trust and develop a positive learning environment.
By maintaining continuity, tutors can better understand students' strengths, areas to strengthen, and individual learning needs.
Familiarity with Zearn Platform:
Tutors must become highly familiar with the Zearn mathematics platform, which is the designated learning program for math tutoring.
They should watch Zearn lesson videos before tutoring sessions to understand the content and learn how to solve the math problems presented in each lesson.
Prepare Supporting Materials:
Tutors are expected to prepare any additional materials or manipulatives necessary for the tutoring sessions, as outlined in the Teacher Lesson Materials section on Zearn.
These materials can help facilitate understanding and engagement during the sessions.
Reach out to your site coordinator for math manipulatives and lesson resources such as white boards, markers, paper, headphones, and folders.
Collaborate with classroom teachers in obtaining a curriculum map.
Lessons in tutoring should be delivered 1-2 weeks ahead of the regular math class in order to front-load or pre-teach content.
Follow Zearn Practices:
Project On-Track math tutoring is NOT computer lab, this is blended instruction.
During tutoring sessions, tutors should mirror the practices demonstrated in the Zearn step-by-step videos.
This includes conducting regular checks for understanding, engaging in discussions with students, and providing deeper instruction when necessary.
The bulk of the tutoring session should align with the Zearn instructional approach.
Ongoing Communication:
Math tutors are required to maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers, their site coordinator and the math specialist.
This ensures that they receive support, guidance, and any necessary clarifications related to Zearn or math content.
Collaboration and Support:
Tutors should actively seek help from the math specialist whenever they require assistance with Zearn or need a better understanding of math concepts.
This collaboration ensures they can provide accurate and effective support to the students.
Timely Communication:
Math tutors are expected to check their emails daily to stay updated on any important information, announcements, or changes related to their role.
Documentation and Reporting:
Tutors should upload Mission and Lesson Completion logs to Canvas on a monthly basis.
This documentation helps track the progress of students and ensures proper record-keeping.
Other Assigned Duties:
The Project On-Track Site Coordinator may assign additional duties to math tutors as needed.
Tutors should be flexible and willing to undertake these tasks in support of the overall program.
Tutors should actively seek help from the math curriculum specialist whenever they require assistance with learning routines or platforms Temperament (Personal Traits):
