Biological Science Technician

At the Erwin National Fish Hatchery, duties include, but are not limited to:
Feed fish in raceways, tanks, and ponds at hatchery Flush, clean, and sterilize raceways, troughs, hatchery tanks and research systems Care for eggs, fry, and fish throughout the rearing and distribution cycle by monitoring condition factors using established scientific procedures Weigh, sort, sample counts and grade fish as needed to maintain proper growth and reduce incidence of stress and disease Assist in visitor services program by conducting guided tours or providing oral/written presentations to the general public, school groups, etc., and participating in events, festivals and outreach Physical Demands:
The employee endures periods of prolonged standing, walking, stooping, and bending. The employee is required to lift, carry, and set up equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work commonly requires considerable exertion when walking over wet, muddy, rough, uneven, and rocky surfaces. Work Environment:
The work is performed outdoors and in an office setting. Temperature and weather extremes are encountered in outdoor work. The employee is expected to perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to avoid endangering self, coworkers, or property. The employee will be required to work a non-standard tour of duty that may include weekends, holidays, and night shifts. This position is being filled under the Pathways Recent Graduates Program that affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Students may apply within one (1) month of meeting their education requirements. Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion. Only experience and education obtained by December 2, 2019 will be considered. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
1) collecting and managing biological data; 2) collecting and recording written and computerized data; 3) communicate orally and in writing; 4) conducting fish culture activities such as feeding, cleaning, and/or monitoring fish rearing units, OR Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major field of study, or at least 24 semester hours, in any combination of courses in biology, chemistry, statistics, microbiology, genetics, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics, AND which includes at least 6 semester hours in fisheries related course work. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university, OR Possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described in A and B above which equates to 100% of the qualification requirement when combined. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Promotion Potential:
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-0404-07. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-0404-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
